The First (in a while) One
It's been a while. And I've been avoiding. hiding. busy (yuck, I hate that word). procrastinating. spacey. disobedient. And enough is enough.
Some time ago, I had an inkling to jump back on here and put somepen to paper fingers to keys and make it happen. But life happened, but not in the way that you would expect. No, I allowed my life to be pushed far beyond the margins of living with space around the edges to live, breathe, rest. And I have only myself to blame take responsibility. This was my choosing. Definitely not my intention, but it was my choice, one small choice after another, to fill my week with so much, say yes to so much, be "busy" with so much. And for what? I don't have a lot to show for my presumed busyness.
I told myself (and maybe a few others), I refuse to wear "busy" as a badge of honor. No one really cares all 19348993 you do during the week (yes, I just typed random numbers there). And the people that do actually care, they are far more concerned with you as a person than how many times you worked late that week. So I won't be telling you what I've been preoccupied with that has kept me from what I've been meaning to do (what God has actually asked of me). But I will tell you that I'm back- with the help of some blog professionals, some friends, obedience (on my part), and grace (on His part), I cannot promise much, but I will promise showing up. Because that's what aunties do. They show up.
All of my aunts have shown up in one way or another, and almost always with food (I'm pretty easy to please in that department). They were always there, whether I had called on them or not. whether I wanted them there or not. And now I have the responsibility to do the same. I'm not a perfect auntie, no, I've made mistakes in the past 15 years (yikes, I'm old), but now my hope, goal, and prayer for my nieces and nephews (biological and adopted) is to show up when it counts, when you need me most, whether you like it, or not. whether you want me to or not. And I promise to have food in hand.
Please accept my invitation to follow this blog. Consider it your favorite auntie's house (are we allowed to have favorites?). If you don't have an auntie, or a favorite (don't lie to yourself though), then Auntie Erin's Place is for you to have a space to drink some coffee, eat some delicious food, talk with a friend, curl in a comfy blanket, for however long you need it. And I'll be here, there, or meet you half way. This is for y'all with a super fun, crazy-cool, show-up-when-you-need-her auntie. This is for y'all without an auntie. This is for my nieces and nephews- biological and adopted. This one, this blog, this is for you dear reader (and probably my facebook friend, or just my mom- hi mom!). Let me grab you a coffee, some snacks, and you just come in, curl up on the couch, and just be. Because aunties feed you and let you be for however long you need it.
Welcome to Auntie Erin's Place.
ps. I'm allowed to say y'all because I live in Florida now and it's sorta in the South, and it's normal to say y'all.
See y'all next time.
